Authorities in the north-central Vietnamese province of Quang Binh will advertise the locality’s tourism on TripAdvisor in 2017 following their recent consensus this week.
Quang Binh officials said on Friday that they had reached agreement with TripAdvisor on promoting the province’s tourist industry on the travel website.
There has been little international advertising for Quang Binh so far due to a limited budget although the province has huge potential, Tran Tien Dung, deputy chairman of the local People’s Committee, said.
This has resulted in very few international tourists visiting the province, Dung added.
Thus provincial leaders have decided to turn to TripAdvisor for publicity.
Matthew Zatto, destination marketing sales manager, Southeast Asia, with TripAdvisor, suggested that Quang Binh authorities should build a system of information on the current tourism services, provide tourist information on all websites, including those of local companies, about destinations and connecting tours, and choose a keyword for the local tourist industry so visitors can easily search for it on the Internet.

Quang Binh officials have tasked relevant agencies and bodies with proceeding first with these suggestions before signing an official contract to promote the province’s tourism on TripAdvisor.
Quang Binh is famous for the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and which houses Son Dong – the largest cave in the world now.

Quang Binh Province announces hotline to support tourists
Authorities in the north-central Vietnamese province of Quang Binh recently announced a hotline to improve service to tourists.
The hotline, which was officially put into operation on May 19, includes two phone numbers, (052) 3833399 and (052) 3503399.
The Tourism Promotion Information Center under the Quang Binh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will receive calls from tourists and provide them with timely support.
Besides accepting feedback regarding local tourism services and ensure security for visitors, the hotline is also intended to support lost and found cases and answer questions related to tourism.
Information that is beyond the consideration of the center will be transferred to the relevant units to ensure a timely response.

Trekking through Tu Lan: the cave less traveled by
Water flows through the Tu Lan cave system in Quang Binh Province.
If one defines caving tourism in Vietnam as Phong Nha – Ke Bang, Tu Lan is the girl next door.
Lesser known and far wilder than the well-lit caves frequented by busloads of tourists, the Tu Lan system sits inside the limestone mountain range that surrounds the Tan Hoa valley commune in Minh Hoa District.
The valley lies north of Phong Nha on the Ho Chi Minh Road in the central province of Quang Binh. Golden corn fields pop out of the thick jungle green when one visits between April and June.
Tu Lan was discovered by local fishermen in 2009 and explored by members of the British Cave Research Association in 2010.
The 200-hectare karst cavern lies lower than its neighbors in Phong Nha – Ke Bang national park so streams twist through its center.
There’s only one way into Tu Lan; you have to swim.
But that is gentle enough compared to the next part: climbing over cliffs that have been standing there for hundreds of millions of years.
There are five more stretches --both swimming and climbing-- inside the system, where the path rises and falls, widens and narrows.
Natural rewards pull you through, like drying your soaking clothes in the wind and sunshine on the high cliffs.
Inside Tu Lan, many rocks look almost man-made--rounded and patterned as if drawn on by cavemen. Some things look as if they must have been placed there on purpose -- like the oblong stalagmites that surround a swimming hole.
The dry cave at the end of the system features a vast roof that lets the sun shine through two large openings illuminating scores of glittering stalactites inside.

Oxalis Adventure Tours is the only firm licensed to provide caving and trekking tours in the area.
They've added wood stairs and panels to aid you through the most precarious parts of your journey.
The rest is left to you.
The company pledged on its website to keep the cave system as natural as possible by adding no construction or housing to ensure every visitor feels like the first person in the cave.
Oxalis takes bookings for one day to six day treks.
They're categorized from very easy to very hard.
The company supplies a helmet, trekking boots, a headlamp, a life jacket, climbing gloves and rope.

Tran Tien Dung, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Committee in the north central province of Quang Binh, has agreed to a pilot program to open adventure tours to Son Doong Cave--the world largest cave--from August this year.

There will be two seven-day and six-night tours or three five-day and four-night tours each month.
Each tour will comprise a maximum of seven visitors and 15 local porters will help carry their baggage and other belongings.
Once the pilot program proves successful, the province will host adventure tours to the Son Doong Cave during the dry season from February to August every year.

Oxalis Company promotes cave tours in Quang Binh Province
Nguyen Chau A, director of Oxalis Company, said on Sunday that his company had invited two foreign cave experts to train guides for conducting cave exploration tours in the central province of Quang Binh.
A newly discovered cave in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in Quang Binh Province Howard Limbert and his wife are the two foreign cave experts hired by the Oxalis Company to train adventure tour guides and plan specific tourist itineraries for the company.
The two experts are already present in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park and will plan the cave tours in consultation with the company to ensure safety for visitors and provide skills to guides to run tours in the tropical forest to explore caves and to trek and climb mountains.
They will help promote cave tourism by guiding American and European companies to make films on the caves in Quang Binh Province.
Mr and Mrs. Limbert and their team have explored caves in Vietnam for the last 20 years and discovered several caves across a stretch of 200 kilometers in Quang Binh Province. They are credited with making Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park a world natural heritage site.
They have also brought world attention to the Son Dong cave--the largest cave in the world. Son Dong is one of the many caves in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.
The Oxalis Company has its headquarters in Quang Binh Province and specializes in adventure and eco tours in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in Bo Trach District as well as other cave areas in the vicinity of the district.
