SG-VN strategic partnership

Singapore and Vietnam set sights on Strategic Partnership Agreement

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean who is on a 3-day official visit to Vietnam, paid a call on Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang at the Presidential Palace on Monday.

Both sides affirmed the warm bilateral relations between Singapore and Vietnam, and agreed to work towards concluding the Strategic Partnership Agreement proposed by President Sang during his visit to Singapore last year.

During his visit, Mr Teo who is also Minister for Home Affairs, signed a new Cooperation Arrangement in Preventing and Combating Transnational Crimes.

The latest Cooperation Arrangement was signed after the Deputy Prime Minister met the Vietnamese Minister of Public Security, Senior Lieutenant General Tran Dai Quang.

Both leaders also discussed deepening cooperation in the areas of transnational crime, drug enforcement, and civil defence matters.

The new Cooperation Arrangement replaces an earlier agreement signed in 2006, and will encourage the sharing of experience, promote information exchange on crime and terrorism, and increase delegation exchanges.
